3k Fun Run

A smaller route was introduced for the October 2005 event which was designed to cater for the younger keen runners who are not eligible to run in the 10k event as the minimum age limit is 15yrs. There are two age categories - 9 to 11yrs and 12 to 14yrs.

For October 2006, the route covers 2 anti-clockwise laps on quiet roads. The Fun Runners will line up at the same time as the racers and will start in front of the 10k mass just outside the park gate (Mapedale Avenue), going on the starter hooter 2 mins before the 10k racers are set off.

The route will take runners out of Mapledale Avenue Park Gate, but heading down Mapledale Avenue and turning Left into Fitzjames Avenue then turning Left into Sandilands, left again into Grimwade Avenue to the end of the road then doing a second lap - Left back down Mapledale Avenue. When coming along Grimwade Avenue for the second time, they will turn right, back through the park gate and continue to the end of the path where the finish line will await them. The route will be marshalled throughout, similar to the main race and a lead cyclist or runner will lead them around the course. A Map can be seen HERE

Every Fun Run finisher will also be awarded with a commemorative medal and a goody bag along with water after crossing the finish line.

The Fun Run will also be chip timed and the race number will contain their own personalised chip.

Prizes are also up for grabs for both categories - 1st and 2nd placed boy and girl in each age category. Refer to the Prize list on the website.

This smaller Fun Run proved to be successful back in October 2005 and followed up with a larger field last April.

The Fun Run currently has a 200 entrant limit and costs a reduced fee of £5.
